After two engaging interviews with Mez from Mezco Toys and DJ Clark Kent, we’re happy to present the conclusion of Issue Two. Part three, our last interview, features Nai, the founder and editor of Strictlyfitteds.com. I met Nai a couple of years ago through mutual friends and quickly discovered his love for fitted baseball caps… it only makes sense that he’s turned that love into his daily grind, writing and curating posts at all hours of the day (and night) for his labor of love. Founded in 2007, Strictly Fitteds has become an essential everyday news source for the fitted baseball cap lover. The site has grown from a simple daily blog to an exclusive look into fitted baseball cap culture via previews, editorials, interviews, and photo galleries.

Part three allows the viewer to take a peek inside Nai’s personal collection, which features rare caps that fitted baseball hat fans thought were only rumors. Nai proves that with each cap there is a story to tell, and we’re excited for you to hear them for yourself.

To tie things up, we wanted to thank a couple of people that were instrumental in putting Issue Two together. Firstly, to our interviewees - Mez, Clark and Nai - thank you for your passion and your energy; it’s been inspiring for us, to say the least. Thank you to Kellen Dengler for your tireless work in directing and editing all of our segments. Lastly, to the bloggers out there who posted and reposted all of our clips across the net. There’s only one reason we do this, and it’s to educate and inspire. By spreading our work, you’re playing a major part in furthering our mission.

And to think we’re just getting started…

As promised in part 1 of our exclusive two part interview, DJ Clark Kent moves beyond “sneakers and records” to break down his opinions on race, the media, and role models. Pulling from his personal experiences, Clark Kent talks about the importance of personal responsibility and a positive attitude. This segment gives a more personal look into DJ Clark Kent and his opinions (which, if you watched part one, he’s never bashful in sharing) and most importantly, his attitude he carries towards everything he works at in life. Once again, we hope that you enjoy watching this segment as much as we enjoyed putting it together.

I like to think that I typically kill it when it comes to Halloween costumes. I’m the type to get really creative and kind of go full force on my costumes. I never buy pre-made costumes. I always put together my own thing. Thank you Salvation Army.

This year, I have a few ideas floating around, one that I’m almost positive I’m going with, but not quite 100%. Here’s a look at the past 3 years:

2005 - Hair Metal

2006 - Baby Daddy

2007 - 80’s Street Dancer (with a hint of white trash - peep the rat tail son!)

So now I ask, what are YOU going to be this year? It’s my first Halloween in the city and I can’t wait to rage it in the streets and see some ridiculous get-ups. SEND US YOUR COSTUME PICS!!!

(I’m a big fan of creative editing - Dr. Smoove has quite a few good GI Joe music videos that are done under the same premise… Get Money and Whoo-Ha are my favorites. Years after I first saw them, they’re still fun to watch). Back to puppets though, I ran across this video which is actually not spliced scenes but an attempted re-creation of “Mind Playing Tricks on Me” by the Geto Boys. I love it.

Talib is one of my favorite emcees - I make it a point to look out for anything he’s dropping, as it’s always interesting to see what new directions he is taking with his music. I was pleasantly surprised to come across this single produced by Dela.

I started chatting with Dela a couple of years ago over Myspace - I found out about him from his production that he did for Supastition’s Deadline EP. During my vacation in Paris two years ago we finally got to meet up and build in person, which was a pleasure. His production qualities belie his young age (he’s in his mid-20’s now), as his beats have a mature sound that’s been heavily influenced by a healthy dose of soul and jazz. We’ve been blessed with opportunities to interview folks like DJ Clark Kent who were instrumental in building hip hop culture; it’s equally exciting to see guys like Dela aiding in its progression.

I digress. So coming back to this track… you can check it out below and form your own opinions, but to me it sounds like vintage Kweli. This song will be on Dela’s upcoming full-length album, “Changes of Atmosphere,” which will also feature appearances from Large Professor, Les Nubiens, Blu, Termanology, Supastition, Surreal and more. If you’re curious to hear more from him now, hit up his Myspace page.

Today’s an exciting day for us at NHTVSN, as we get to finally debut part 1 of our two part exclusive interview with DJ Clark Kent. When we started the NHTVSN video project, we wanted it to be a forum for our industry friends to wax poetic on anything they chose to talk about. Upon meeting with Clark, I realized that there was quite a lot going on that he was ready and willing to talk about, so much that we ended up with more footage than we knew what to do with. We broke the interview up in as logical a way as possible… this first segment covers some of the things you know him for - DJ, producer, sneaker aficionado, tastemaker, and more. It’s not every day that you get to interview a founding father of hip hop, and for that we’re very grateful.

Before we get started, a few thanks are certainly in order. First of all, to the Commissioner for making the introduction - without you, we wouldn’t have had this opportunity. Big ups to Todd Nisbet, Mr. Bee and the rest of the Frank’s Chop Shop team for opening up their venue to us and providing a perfect backdrop for our conversation. And finally, to DJ Clark Kent for sharing some very special memories with us.
