Long Life.

Talib is one of my favorite emcees - I make it a point to look out for anything he’s dropping, as it’s always interesting to see what new directions he is taking with his music. I was pleasantly surprised to come across this single produced by Dela.

I started chatting with Dela a couple of years ago over Myspace - I found out about him from his production that he did for Supastition’s Deadline EP. During my vacation in Paris two years ago we finally got to meet up and build in person, which was a pleasure. His production qualities belie his young age (he’s in his mid-20’s now), as his beats have a mature sound that’s been heavily influenced by a healthy dose of soul and jazz.  We’ve been blessed with opportunities to interview folks like DJ Clark Kent who were instrumental in building hip hop culture; it’s equally exciting to see guys like Dela aiding in its progression.

I digress. So coming back to this track… you can check it out below and form your own opinions, but to me it sounds like vintage Kweli. This song will be on Dela’s upcoming full-length album, “Changes of Atmosphere,” which will also feature appearances from Large Professor, Les Nubiens, Blu, Termanology, Supastition, Surreal and more.
